education is a privilege, not a right. if you have the qualifications to get into college, they should take the highest scores first. not because you're black, white, chinese, mexican. this is the reason why we cannot fill the jobs we have today. people given to college that do not deserve to be there. it's just come guest: i do not think it is discrimination against whites to consider race in university admissions. universities are looking among a pool of qualified applicants. a number of things are considered. whether your parents went to the school are considered. that is going to benefit white candidates. whether you have leadership potential, whether you did something interesting, went to africa and dug ditches, those types of things are considered. those types of things can benefit students who are not p oor or latino or black. i do not look at it that is -- as something that is harming white students. i think the tough thing is is there is a larger pool of students who are qualified for admissions. people are going

the board of education, etc. i want to make a personal comment. i took the s.a.t.'s with a black friend of mine from massachusetts, a basketball player who went on to play for jacksonville in the n.c.a.a. tournament. we both moaned and groaned over the s.a.t.'s. i think it was discrimination against both of us because we were from a poor neighborhood and never got the opportunity. a lot of the problem is the scholastic aptitude testing to get into college, which is discriminating both against poor white and black men, and women also. also, i think you cannot disregard women from discrimination in the past and what blacks went through in this country. i took a broader brush and took every minority -- they would take asians and everything into consideration, and this left the black man out of the picture to a large extent. i also feel that they should take more white men from neighborhoods that are disadvantaged and give them a shot. but there should be separate programs in the colleges and universities for situations like that. host: that is jerry from portsmouth, rh

they've gotten really good academic education but they've also really gotten spectacular education in living with the folks who are the real virginia today. we're increasingly diverse state and that's an important part of medication. i would hope what the supreme court would do in this case would be they would affirm that it is ok for a public institution, whether it's government body handing out contracts or student or college admitting students, that it's ok for them to try to make sure that their student body looks like the state looks. they should if at all practical use factors on race and economic disadvantage, are you the first in your family to go to college? but if you see public institutions where the numbers of students dramatically different then the state population, i think it's an indication of challenge and problem that we have to try to solve. i strongly believe the diversity of our commonwealth is the strength, diversity of our nation is a strength and we ought to see diversity in our public bodies. >> mr. allen? >> i'm in some agreement with tim's expressions. i'm s
